Our Story

Polka Dot Grace.life™

I have something extraordinary to share with you. A true story.

But first, dear reader — I must ask you something.

Have you ever felt kind of… lost? Not the kind where you want to cry (yet). The kind where you need a little…something?

That’s how I felt that Sunday morning. The sky was overcast and uncertain — and so was my heart.

So, I grabbed my favorite polka dot purse and decided to go somewhere I knew had answers.

I ran away.

But not just anywhere.

I ran away… to church.

I slipped on my ballet flats and headed towards the front door.

That’s when I heard it —

Tap. Tap. SPLASH.

The rain was falling hard.

Not soft, cozy rain like lullabies.

This rain was like hundreds of tiny stomps on the rooftop.

I didn’t mind.

I will get soaked for Jesus, I thought.

I didn’t have an umbrella.

I didn’t have a ride.

I had one thing:

Hope.

And when I took my very first step outside —

The rain stopped.

Just like that.

I looked up. The sky was gray. The clouds were puffed-up and heavy.

Not a single drop touched my nose.

I smiled.

I whispered, Thank you, Jesus.

I rested in awe of what He can do.

I knew He was listening.

I didn’t always understand His timing.

My heart was sure — though my mind was not.

He was walking beside me.

He knew I had questions.

Step by step, I walked between the raindrops all the way to church.

The big wooden doors were wide open.

I slipped inside, quietly as a whisper.

The music was playing — soft and unfolding like a prayer.

I found a seat in the back and sat very still.

No one asked me where I’d come from.

No one asked why I was alone.

They smiled my way—lovingly—as they worshipped.

In that moment, I didn’t feel lost anymore.

I felt found.

We sang. We listened.

We prayed little prayers with big hearts.

And then I heard the thunder of rain—steady and strong outside the church walls.

It was pouring… again.

When it was time to leave, I stood up,

filled up.

Filled with something that felt warm and brave — like the sun shining inside me.

I pushed the big doors open — ready to walk home in the rain.

I didn’t mind.

I will get soaked for Jesus, I whispered.

Then it happened…again.

The rain stopped.

I chuckled.

Have you ever chuckled, unsure why… but your heart knew?

Step by step, I walked between the raindrops all the way to the market to get a snack —

crackers, cheese, a juicy red apple.

Inside it was warm and cozy.

Outside… plop.

A raindrop on my nose.

I looked up.

The storm was back.

I welcomed the rain…again.

I will get soaked for Jesus, I whispered.

That’s when I saw it.

Right there in the puddle.

I stared.

What was it?

It looked lost.

Like it had been left behind.

Like it didn’t know where to go next.

I looked around.

No one was there.

Just me… and the rain.

Then — a voice!

From across the street.

A bus driver (perhaps an angel) stepped off the city bus and called out,

“Hey, lady! It’s for you. Pick it up!”

I looked down.

It was right there, within arm’s reach.

I bent over slowly.

I picked it up —

an umbrella.

I opened it.

Polka dots—
just like my favorite purse.

I stood in awe —

sheltered from the rain,

surprised, delighted,

covered by polka dot grace.

Dear Reader,

The story you’ve just read is an account of a Holy Spirit-filled day in my life many years ago — a day when I felt lost, weary, and unsure how to move forward.
And then, God showed up.
In the storm.
In the form of a polka dot umbrella.
Extraordinary.

Isn’t that just like Jesus?
To show up in the storm.
To protect with perfect timing.
To provide in ways only He can.
To know every detail of our lives…
Even accessorizing us with polka dots.

That very umbrella hangs in my sunroom like a Smithsonian artifact — a reminder of the sacred truths I learned that polka dot day walking to church.

1. Jesus is our protector — rain or shine.
“He will cover you with his feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.”
Psalm 91:4

2. Jesus provides — with perfect timing.
“And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”
2 Corinthians 9:8

3. Jesus is love.
“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.”
1 John 4:7

4. Jesus knows every detail of our lives.
“You have searched me, Lord, and you know me.”
Psalm 139:1

My prayer for you, dear reader, is that Polka Dot Grace reminds you — as it reminds me —

When the rain begins in our lives,
When we long for the storm to lift,
When we step into something hard, heavy, with little in hand,
When our prayers are whispers without words — only hope,
When we ache for God to do what feels impossible to us —

He loves us.

He sees us.

He protects us.

He walks with us between the raindrops — always.

Go God!
